Some Classic DVDs
We all enjoy a good movie or video, but how often do you come across the great “old” classics? Here is page of seldom seen DVDs that, for the most part, are no longer sitting on store shelves.
They are educational, enlightening, even thought provoking. A few of these listed are for young children only. Most are family fodder and certainly most are collectible relics.
There’s even one from Sesame Street that includes a segment on how to treat a dog.
All classic DVDs listed have a common denominator – they include a dog in some fashion.
This is a mix of scenarios from the 1960’s that involve Snoopy, the Beagle. It’s one of the classic DVDs made for children. Run-time is 2-1/2 hours!
This classic features the little Cairn Terrier, ToTo. If you’ve never seen this, it is a good adventure for children with a message for adults. This movie is used by some psychologists in their practice as it has some powerful thoughts.

Special edition, wide-screen, animated with surround sound. Run-time is 1 hour and 10 minutes. Fresh adventure using the same dalmatians including Patch’s. A family movie.
A Great Dane is raised with a litter of Dachshunds and grows up with the idea that he’s a Dachshund too. This 1966 movie was rel;eased on DVD in 2004 and runs around 1-1/2 hours. It’s a fun dog story for all ages and has a 5-star rating.
Originally released in 2008, this 4-star (average) film of 1-1/2 hours came out on DVD in 2009. If you love dogs, and the Chihuahua in particular, this Disney movie is made for you! You’ll have an hour and a half of laughs.
This 1981 Disney production was put on DVD in 2006 and lasts almost an hour and a half. It is a story of a young Bloodhound and a fox. The Bloodhound is trained to hunt and of course the fox becomes his enemy but it all changes toward the end. A moderate 4-star rating.
“Bolt is a funny animated 1-1/2 hour movie about a dog who thinks he has superpowers. It is also a movie about friendship, perseverance, and the power of believing in oneself.” The psychology is a good lesson for most everyone.
A story about several foster kids who find themselves trying to save homeless dogs, some of which they find seeking shelter in an old hotel. It’s a 4-1/2 star movie, over an hour and a half long.
Homeward Bound is a great hour and 23 minutes of entertainment. Three animals,Shadow, the Golden Retriever, Chance the Bulldog and Sassy the cat are lost and go through a series of adventures while trying to find their way back home. They are given “voices” by Michael J. Fox, Sally Field and Don Ameche. This is a movie for children.
Homeward Bound – The Incredible Journey
A romantic comedy with witty scripts for Helen Hunt and Mike Nicholson. A 2 hour + movie from 1993. For more details, click on the link below and scroll down the Amazon page to Editorial Reviews and than Customer Reviews. The film gets a 4-1/2 star rating by customers. One of the real classic DVDs.

2009 – If you like Golden Retrievers, you may enjoy these puppies that find a way to launch themselves into space. It is child entertainment.
Includes Charlie Breown, Snoopy the Beagle, Marcy and Peppermint Patty in a 25 minute classic with a 4-1/2 star rating. The episode dates to 1974 but has been remastered for DVD wide screen. This DVD was released in 2008.
This 4th of Lassie appeared in movie theaters in 1954. This digital update was put on DVD in 2004. It is a family movie. If you have missed this of all classic dvds, consider watching it.
The set below first appeared in 1943, during the War. They were the first movie of their kind and were tremendously successful.
