Designer Dogs – About The Cavachon
What is it?
This precious little pooch is a blend of two fun-loving, friendly dogs Try the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise for parents!
Important Cavachon information: No two dogs from the same litter will have the exact same temperament and other characteristics so all I can give you are generalities and averages. (Same is true for humans!)
The dog weights 15 to 25 pounds (7—12 kg) average and is around 11 to 12 inches tall at the shoulders with an average lifespan of 16 years or more. They come in white, peach, red, sable or black and tan, either solid or on a white background. The spotted dogs often sport the symmetrical pattern of the King Charles.
Cavachon Temperament
Energetic, lively, perky, inquisitive, people and pet friendly, affectionate and playful describes this dog who is always ready to play or curl up on your lap. They do very well with responsible children. He can’t stand to be overlooked or left out of family matters, rather, he needs lots of attention.
This dog is ideal for senior citizens, and generally does okay with other pets in the house but can be initially standoffish with strangers.
This dog needs a good walk or two daily and some play time with a ball or toy. Exercise is essential
They have soft, slightly wavy or curly fur that sheds very little. Some breeders claim the fur coat is hypoallergenic and thus is good news for allergy sufferers.
Living Arrangements?
He’s ideal for apartments, flats and condos and farms. This dog barks now and then but not much. If in a house with a fenced yard, that’s ideal. Your Cavachon can run and snoop and investigate as well as play “fetch” the way he likes to do.
The energetic, playful, friendly Designer Dog needs plenty of exercise, is a great house pet, enjoys children and people in general and is a cute addition for the whole family or an individual living alone.
This is a “small dog” and as such, requires a family that can lead with kind, persistent dominance. See Alpha Dog for ideas. Small dogs have a way of running the household if they aren’t put in a submissive position. For more Cavachon information, read the the profiles of the parents with the two links above.
Coloration, appearance, temperament and health will depend on the balance of influence from each parent. That is, if the dog has, say, 80% Bichon and only 20% King Charles in the genes, your dog will be more strongly influenced in the direction of the Bichon for most all traits. A 50% — 50% mix is terribly rare for hybrid / designer dogs.
